How to read the serial

2000 to present formatVERIFIED

Shape ###AAAA#A### · example 207KRMK0Y171 · confidence high

Year
position 1 = last digit of year (2 = 2012 or 2022); decade NOT distinguished - use the plate's printed manufacture date or model era. A 13-char variant carries two year digits (1201KAPB00104 = Jan 2012).
Week or month
month = positions 2-3 (01-12)

Example: serial 207KRMK0Y171 decodes to 2002 or 2012 or 2022 (July).

Trap: Decade ambiguity (407HAVN79423 = Jul 2024 or Jul 2014; plate said 2024). Regex tolerates the 2-digit-year variant; a decoder must reject month > 12.

Where the data plate is on a heat pump

On the outdoor unit, same place as a condenser: a plate on the side or back of the cabinet near the line set. The indoor air handler carries its own plate with its own serial.

General guidance, not brand-specific: the owner's manual or the installer can point to the exact spot. See the data plate guide.

For scale only: the InterNACHI Standard Estimated Life Expectancy Chart for Homes lists Heat Pump at 10 to 15 years of expected service (nachi.org). That chart is a guideline, not a prediction for your unit.

Official lookup: the authority

Open the official LG lookup takes serial number; returns warranty / registration lookup; URL verified live

This site is a reference built from published tables. The manufacturer's own lookup wins whenever the two disagree.
