- LG air conditioner serial numbers in the 2000 to present format encode the year as position 1 = last digit of year (2 = 2012 or 2022); decade NOT distinguished - use the plate's printed manufacture date or model era. A 13-char variant carries two year digits (1201KAPB00104 = Jan 2012) and the month as positions 2-3 (01-12) (source: building-center.org).
- Example: serial 207KRMK0Y171 decodes to 2002 or 2012 or 2022 (July).
- The 2000 to present format is ambiguous: Decade ambiguity (407HAVN79423 = Jul 2024 or Jul 2014; plate said 2024). Regex tolerates the 2-digit-year variant; a decoder must reject month > 12.
- LG air conditioner serial numbers in the before 2012 format encode the year as positions 6-9 = 4-digit year and the month as position 10 (1-9, A=Oct, B=Nov, C=Dec); day as positions 11-12 (source: building-center.org).
- Example: serial EQ11220013150001 decodes to March 2001.

What we could not confirm
- HVAC and appliances share one style: position 1 = last digit of year, positions 2-3 = month (207KRMK0Y171 on an LG refrigerator plate stamped MANUFACTURED 2012.07; 407HAVN79423 on a 2024 mini-split). Decade must be inferred; newer plates print the manufacture date. Building-center's LG APPLIANCE page mislabels positions 2-3 as 'week' but its own plate photo (2012.07) proves month. lghvac.com/warranty-page/ = 200 (warranty terms, not a serial lookup); lg.com/us/support = 200. LG's own help-library article on manufacture dates could not be located this session (search budget exhausted).
